Abstract | This examination of 40 models of instructional design from a variety of sources discusses the purposes and uses of these models, and then offers an explanation as to why there are so many different models. The 40 models are divided into categories based on their most pertinent characteristics. It is concluded that because of the varying levels of quality of the models, educators must be careful in choosing the model to be followed when designing instruction.
